Extension to the existing Coach House and refurbishment of the existing building to form a new Art room and CDT workshop.
SUMMARY / DESCRIPTION:
Aldwickbury School consists partly of day pupils and partly weekly boarders. This was the 3rd project with the school which was negotiated following the successful delivery of the New School Hall and the Science Block.
The works comprised the extension to the existing Coach House, including the partial demolition of existing classrooms and the refurbishment of the existing building to form a new Art room and CDT workshop. All works were undertaken in sympathy with the existing Victorian architecture using traditional methods of construction.
There were particularly challenging issues on the project in that the discovery of Bats on the earlier phases of works meant that a Bat Licence and Mitigation Strategy was put into place and adhered to throughout the programme. Not only were the Bats a challenge but the discovery of House Martins nesting within the clock tower also meant works had to be carried out only during certain months until the birds had migrated.
The project was delivered on time, within the client’s budget and has provided the school with a long awaited additional facility
