Junior Branch - East Balcony & Science Cloister
This project for University College School was completed in 14 weeks and was complicated by the school being open and only 1 entrance to the site.
East balcony area.
The project involves forming a new balcony and main entrance area for the school, re-designing the staircase and forming a waterproof storage room under the main entrance. The Steel structure is supported on piles and has a glass balustrade and perforated sheeting balustrade to keep privacy for the neighbours.
Natural stone was used on the staircase with glass balustrade and Oak hand rails. The deck was covered and set to falls, with a sarnafil roofing membrane laid and covered with dura-deck boards. New lighting was fitted throughout and the lightning protection extended.
New Windows and render to the existing science block with new capping to the parapet wall. A new curved staircase was formed with new steels and roof put to falls with a box gutter then covered with sarnafil membrane. Three new roof lights where fitted into the roof with the curve of the roof light following the curve of the staircase.
These works where undertaken during the 6 weeks summer holiday and handed over in time for the students to use for access to the school whilst the balcony project was completed.
