Construction of a new sixth form block
SUMMARY / DESCRIPTION:
The Project involved the alteration and refurbishment of the existing Sawyers Hall school building which included approximately 1960sqm of accommodation over the ground and first floors, together with the construction of a new sixth form block, following the removal of the existing building.
The works to the main school building included internal reconfiguration to the floor plans with extensive structural remodelling, together with repairs to the roof, gutters, parapets and facades. The complete strip out and reinstatement of the mechanical and electrical services and the installation of a new platform and stair lift. The installation of acoustic panelling and new door sets throughout ensured the high performance criteria levels were achieved.
A commercial style catering kitchen was installed to provide dining within the newly refurbished school hall. The new, lightweight construction, single storey sixth form block had a large pop up light beacon allowing natural daylight to penetrate the building, resulting in a bright vibrant environment for the pupils and teachers.
The project was very fast paced throughout. The design stage had to be carefully managed to ensure planning milestones were achieved and the high standards required by the EFA and End User were achieved.
