Creation of a new modern Sixth form Centre

Queens College London

New Sixth Form Centre - 43-49 Harley Street, London

SUMMARY / DESCRIPTION:

We have carried out a number of projects over the years, and this is the flagship.

Description

The project was to create a new modern Sixth form Centre by constructing an additional floor on top of the grade 2 listed building, we installed a new lift and lift shaft, upgraded the mechanical and electrical services and fully refurbished the existing third floor classrooms and WC’s.

A comprehensive external scaffold and temporary roof  provided access for men and materials and ensured the existing roof structure could be removed without disruption to the live floors of the school below. This also meant we were kept separate from the school during the works as all access was from the outside.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was to maintain “business as usual” for the school whilst major works were being undertaken and this was achieved with not a single complaint throughout the course of the contract.
